I spent a great day at the Scottish Further Education Unit (SFEU) in in Stirling today. I was asked to contribute to their Employability week by giving a couple of talks about how games and new technologies can enhance prospective employees employablity. The group I was working with were an excellent bunch and they were very receptive to and interested in a lot of what I was talking about. Here they are:
The games based learning material that I discussed was very well received. Here are the links to the Serious Games sites that I talked about:
The idea of the blog as a learning tool that could aid FE students personal and professional development was something that seemed of great interest to the participants. They all seem to use Blackboard in their organisations but very little, if any, of them are using the e-portfolio facility. The fact that a student could personalise their own space in order to document their progress via a series of posts that could include text, attachments, video, image animation etc really excited these FE lecturers and I think that many of them are away tonight with the express intrention of exploring this further.
For those of you that were there today here is the SFEU video that was posted in You Tube. Remember how easy it was to post something like this.
Anyway, this was a really good day with colleagues from the FE sector and I'm sure that there will be opportunities for future collaboration with them.
